The Who and the What

Pune’s first arbitration centric law practice with a concentrated focus on Arbitration and Commercial Trial Work.

The Chambers are headed by Aman Vijay Dutta, whose name is synonymous with domestic arbitration and commercial trial law in Pune. He is recognized as a leading independent counsel in domestic arbitration and commercial litigation matters, owing to his singular focus on disputes work before Courts and Arbitral Tribunals and is engaged by individuals, companies, and law firms.

With nearly a decade spent in the practice of law, Aman and his team bring their expertise to bear on a diverse spectrum of cases. These range from navigating general commercial and civil actions to complex arbitrations concerning the civil and mechanical intricacies of some of India’s largest thermal power plants before Arbitral Tribunals, to constitutional challenges against governmental prohibitions for India’s largest bike-taxi aggregator before Courts. He does this with a set of colleagues spread across Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi, and other cities in India, appearing for clients across the entire spectrum of the justice delivery system, right from the Trial Courts to the Supreme Court of India.

In addition to this practice, Aman acts as an Arbitrator in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations. He was recently empaneled as an Arbitrator by the Indian Law Society's Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, Pune and is the youngest member on the panel.

He is also an author, having penned a concentrated one of its kind work on the subject of Domestic Indian Arbitration titled The Handbook on Domestic Arbitration in India (2024).

Aman regularly visits ILS Law College, Pune, NICMAR University, Pune & Mumbai and other institutes as a professor.

The Why

The amalgam of the elements that make up the practice of law before Courts and Tribunals gives one a sense of satisfaction; of power; of responsibility; and energy that no other profession or calling can.

The justice delivery system is slow and often frustrating; even for Advocates. In fact, every first-generation lawyer has close to zero compelling reasons to choose litigation over other forms of legal practice or even another calling alltogether. Even for parties, choosing to settle a dispute is almost always the wiser choice than pursuing a litigation or arbitration. But when all else fails; when every attempt at resolution fails; and when parties reach an impasse, it is only the Courts and Tribunals that can finally put an end to disputes one way or another. Beyond a point, all other means or modes are subservient to the judicial process. The process itself isn’t an easy or self-executing one; many a time, unpleasant. That, however, is more or less the case with the road for any worthy pursuit.

But if pursued with persistence, diligence, honesty, and creativity, the system can and does deliver justice. And not too many feelings or experiences can match the high and the rush of adrenalin that a persuasive argument, well thought and executed strategy, successful cross examination, well drafted written submission, or evenly and fairly balanced arbitral award or judgment can give - a convergence of intellectual stimulation, rhetorical  stimulation, and scriptive satisfaction coming together to solve a problem by collecting drops from the vast ocean of the law. When all is said and done, this amalgam of the elements that make up the practice of law before Courts and Tribunals gives me a sense of satisfaction; of power; of responsibility; and energy that no other profession or calling can.

I became a Lawyer, because I was advised to.

I became an Advocate, because I wanted to.
